Google set to change strategy: what to expect

The search giant has monopolized the search market and influenced the way web marketing, as we know today, exists. It has provided the ways and means to get known online and increase the “air-time” through right methodologies at the disposal of many online marketing enterprises. However, besides monopolizing the market, Google has been careful of its competitors, especially Bing and green revolution influenced Ecosia. Although, the market share for both of these is nothing in comparison to Google and its partners, the controversial information collection and sourcing practiced by the search giant isn’t going down so well with people who are already vary of the companies intent on using personal information under the pretext of providing targeted advertisements and promotional offers.

In the second half of 2011, it seemed as though Google was beginning to tighten its money-making grip by restructuring and optimizing the way the search engine returns results to make the entire process more user friendly and direct. In 2012, the company will be looking to cater to even specific and detailed search queries with direct answers in their search results. This will not just reduce the data returned in search results but will also impact the way online marketers target and attract customers. When Google starts returning direct results obviating the need for searching through several pages to have one’s query answered, the actual reason for marketers to deploy their tools within pages becomes useless as no searcher would venture so far having their question answered by Google as the first search result itself.

Well, if these changes are in store within the search giant’s strategy which clearly is monopolistic in nature, what should be the logical step for online marketers and advertisers? With its market coverage and influential power through web search, Google is pretty much an indispensible entity. The strategies that online marketers should adopt must be able to exact advantages from this strategy change rather than get negatively affected by it and this can only be done by making sure that the pages online which make your money are structured in the format which eases the ability of the information therein to be pulled by Google’s new search methodology. It is simply the case of ‘If you can’t beat them, join them!’!
