NBC goes tech savvy with 3500 hours of live Olympics broadcast

The National Broadcast Company or NBC is going gung ho with the live Olympics broadcast giving access to its customers about 3500 hours of live-streamed coverage of the Olympic games from London in July and August. The live streamed video coverage will be delivered via NBCOlympics.com and through mobile applications that is expected to be launched in the middle of July.

The NBC Sports group chairman Mark Lazarus during a conference call with the reporters informed that the live coverage can be accessed from anywhere and anytime given the present technological innovations. He further stressed that in the present circumstances of changing times there is some sense in satisfying the needs of the people by using the latest technologies. He believes that they have the ability to provide live streams of every event of the Olympic Games.

NBC is going full stream with live coverage of Olympic Games preparations for the London 2012 Olympic Games. This live coverage of many events can be found on the NBC Sports Network and the selected videos will appear in their website of NBCOlympics.com. NBC is also adding a social cause or component in order to promote its coverage and engage the viewers. For instance, NBC hosted a Google+ Hangout with American soccer player Megan Rapinoe.

Earlier this week, NBC announced an Olympics partnership with the music identification service provider Shazam. This partnership will encourage the viewers to use its free mobile applications to see event schedules, medal counts, athletes’ bios, and news photos in addition to vote in polls, participate in social media discussions and download the NBC Olympics apps.

NBC’s Universal research head – Mr. Alan Wurtzel in his conference call said that this is the first twitter Olympics and they are going to spend a lot of time in understanding how people are connecting to each other and what it actually meant. The International Olympic Committee’s You tube channel is also going to broadcast 2,200 hours of HD coverage for people in about 64 territories in Asia and Africa.
The London Olympics is going to be a major ground for digital and social media to play their role in the broadcast of these games. Earlier in the month of April, the Olympic Committee revealed an Olympic Athletes’ Hub to connect fans with verified athlete Face book and Twitter accounts and then directly posting the content from their social networking accounts.
