Nokia set to rival other smartphones with Windows software and its characteristic affordability

Nokia has been a reputed name in the phone market and is one that held sway over half of the world market until Apple’s Iphone and Blackberry phone took away its thunder. Nokia has been monumentally behind in capturing the smartphone market but has recently entered this market space through their Lumia series. The Lumia series until now are receiving good reviews but because of the dominant smartphones market that Nokia has missed in a large way is still making success elude Nokia and its erstwhile legacy. While Nokia had marketed its E and N series phones as smartphones many believed that these weren’t as smart as others out there. Nokia’s limited flexibility software was to blame and it almost had miss the bus had it not have launched its Lumia series.

In addition to Lumia, Nokia is making plans to unveil two new phones next Monday on Feb 27. While the press conference has created a lot of speculation, one thing that is clear is that Nokia will be using Microsoft’s windows phones software platform in these phones. The Windows phones software has much like Nokia’s smartphones have been unable to create the requisite customer curiosity. Limited to the HTC series and the like, Microsoft’s software platform for smartphones hasn’t yet received the kind of external packaging that could have affected its growth. Microsoft’s phone platform’s market share had fell by 2 percent last quarter and earlier it had fell by 3 percent a year ago and 13 percent four years earlier. This gradual and possibly loss ridden fall in market share for its software was inevitably causing waste of resources and investment that Microsoft had made in this segment to capture a very growing market. However, with Nokia choosing Microsoft’s Windows phone software over its own, the chances of both companies surviving the s market and making through to success is still being hopes for. The deciding factor here largely seems to be the fate of the two new phones that Nokia will be launching on 27th Feb on Monday.
