Google Drive Launched

After weeks of speculation with regards to its release and one or two leaked versions google has finally launched it most awaited 5 giga byte cloud-storage service called the Google Drive, which was officially announced on the company’s blog on Tuesday.

The service will help to access files from anywhere in the world and in doing so will help people to collaborate on documents with each other. The service is integrated with Google Docs to make it even more convenient for its users. Google docs are an integral part of the service which means that users can collaborate with colleagues in real time on documents, spreadsheets and presentations. Once the content has been shared you can add and reply to comments on the shared file be it a PDF, image file or a video etc. also you will receive notifications when other people comment on the items that you have shared. an important feature of the Google Drive is smart tagging which allows you to tag the items on your drive so that the next time you run a search for that item it will show up in the results, example: if you’ve tagged a picture of the Eiffel tower and then you run a search for the same then it will show up in the results. Another impressive feature is image recognition, what happens with this feature is that when you drag and drop images of your vacation and later search for locations that you have visited then those photos will show up. Also it uses OCR (Optical Character Recognition) Technology through which it can recognize the text of a scanned document. Blind users can access the drive by using a screen reader. It can recognize thirty different file types and also opens them in the browser itself regardless of whether you have the required software. Some of the included file types are PDF’s, HD video, and images from Photoshop and Illustrator.
